MEET YOUR PRACTITIONER

Dr. Johanna Butler

Doctor of Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine

I’m a licensed acupuncturist and nationally board-certified practitioner with a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. I have a special interest in women’s health and reproductive medicine, cosmetic acupuncture, pain management, and helping patients feel their best through personalized Chinese medicine care.

My approach blends Traditional Chinese Medicine with modern, evidence-informed care to create thoughtful treatments tailored to each individual. Depending on your needs, care may include acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, nutritional support, and lifestyle recommendations to support your healing journey.

I believe good care begins with listening, understanding the whole picture, and meeting each patient exactly where they are.

MY STORY

Originally from Colombia, I moved to the United States when I was eleven and grew up in El Paso, Texas. My path to Chinese medicine was shaped by many different experiences, each one bringing me closer to the medicine I practice today.

Inspired to continue learning, I began my formal studies in Chinese medicine. My education took me from Denver to Austin, where I completed my master’s-level training at AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine, and later to Houston, where I earned my Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine from the American College of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Social Work from The University of Texas at El Paso, where my interest in understanding people, their experiences, and the many factors that influence health first began to grow.

After years of studying, practicing, traveling, and living in different cities, El Paso kept calling me home. I returned to bring that early vision to life through Root Acupuncture, a space where I could weave together everything I had learned and provide thoughtful, personalized care to the community that has always been part of my story.

That curiosity eventually led me to yoga, meditation, and the exploration of traditional healing practices. During my travels through India, I developed a deeper appreciation for ancient approaches to health and healing. It was there that the earliest vision for Root began, the idea of creating a space where people could feel truly seen, supported, and cared for as a whole.

MY APPROACH

Care that sees the whole picture.

One of the things I love most about Chinese Medicine is that we don’t have to view symptoms as separate pieces, we look at how everything connects.

Whether you come in for back pain, fertility support, migraines, stress, hormonal concerns, sleep issues, or simply because you want to feel better, your treatment is built around you.

I take the time to understand your health history, symptoms, lifestyle, stress, sleep, nutrition, and goals through the lens of Chinese Medicine.

My goal is simple: for you to feel heard, comfortable, and confident that your care is truly personalized to you.

OUTSIDE THE CLINIC

Home is where Root began.

When I’m not at Root, you’ll probably find me practicing Pilates, spending time outdoors, planning my next adventure, discovering a new restaurant or matcha spot, or cuddling with my dog, Luna.

If you visit Root, you may even get to meet Luna, who occasionally keeps me company at the clinic and brings a little extra warmth to the space.

I love traveling and exploring new places, but after living in several different cities, returning home to El Paso has given me an even deeper appreciation for this community.

It feels special to build Root here and care for the people and community that have been part of my own story for so many years.
I’m fluent in both English and Spanish and am proud to provide care in either language.

Se habla español.

I look forward to welcoming you to Root.

READY WHEN YOU ARE

Whether you’re seeking support for a specific concern or simply looking to feel more balanced, your care begins with a conversation.
